Det består av 20 vardagliga aktiviteter där patienten får ange hur väl han eller hon tror sig klara av olika vardagliga aktiviteter trots befintlig smärta. För varje aktivitet får patienten skatta sin förmåga på en skala mellan 0 och 10. Smärta kan vara en hindrande faktor till hög self-efficacy. Self-efficacy definieras som individens subjektiva övertygelse om sin förmåga att mobilisera de kognitiva, motivations- och beteenderesurser som behövs för att framgångsrikt klara av att utföra en specifik uppgift i en given kontext (Bandura, 1986). Eftersom self-efficacy beror på situation kan hög self-efficacy innan operation dock bli låg när patienterna möts av den postoperativa verkligheten, som kan skilja sig mycket från den verklighet som patienterna föreställt sig (Lucas, 2007).
